Cannon, Mihailovic, Lichaj and Transfermarkt’s top 10 highest-valued players from Illinois

Reggie Cannon is the highest-valued Illinois native, according to Transfermarkt (FC Dallas)

1) Reggie Cannon

The subject of this week’s Where Are They Now? tops the list at
$1.43 million, according to Transfermarkt.

The Chicago native is in the midst of his third season with FC Dallas and has already earned two caps for the United States men’s national team.

2. Eric Lichaj

30-year-old defender Eric Lichaj, who is in his first season with English Championship side Hull City, is valued at $1.14 million.

The Downers Grove native had stints at Downers Grove Roadrunners, Chicago Fire Juniors and Chicago Fire Premier before making the leap to the English ranks and the United States men’s national team.

3. Brad Guzan

Another United States men’s national team veteran checks in at $1.14 million.

34-year-old Brad Guzan, winner of the 2018 MLS Cup with Atlanta United, was born in Evergreen Park and developed his skills at Chicago Magic, Providence Catholic High School in New Lenox and the Chicago Fire Reserves.

4. Djordje Mihailovic

Chicago Fire Soccer Club/Ted Bryant

From Lemont comes the number four entrant on the list at $969,000: 20-year-old Chicago Fire midfielder Djordje Mihailovic.

Mihailovic, son former player Aleks Mihailovic, featured for Chicago Blast and made his way through the Fire’s youth ranks, all the way to becoming the club’s ninth homegrown player in 2017.

5. Daniel Schmidt

All the way from the Japanese league, at $855,000, comes Vegalta Sendai goalkeeper Daniel Schmidt.

After moving to Japan from Illinois at the age of 2, Schmidt has made a career in the Japanese league and most recently earned his first two caps with the Japanese national team.

6. Harry Shipp

Seattle Sounders Football Club

At $770,000 comes Lake Forest native and second Chicago Fire homegrown signing Harry Shipp.

Shipp, 27, had stints at Chicago Fire Juniors and Notre Dame before becoming the third homegrown player signing in Fire history in 2014. He would go on to have a short stint at Montreal Impact before joining his current club, Seattle Sounders.

7. Chris Mueller

Orlando City Soccer Club

Schaumburg native Chris Mueller checks in at $684,000, according to Transfermarkt.

Mueller spent time at Chicago Sockers before his college stint at Wisconsin and his first professional matches for Chicago FC United. He is currently in his second season with Orlando City, the club that drafted him sixth overall in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft.

8. Jonathan Spector

Hibernian Football Club

33-year-old Hibernian FC defender Jonathan Spector enters the list at $570,000.

The Arlington Heights native played for St. Viator High School in Arlington Heights, Schwaben AC and Chicago Sockers in preparation for his long career in English soccer and the United States men’s national team.

9. Wan Kuzain

At $456,000 comes Carbondale native Wak Kuzain.

Kuzain, 20, is in his second professional season with Sporting Kansas City after signing a homegrown player contract in 2018. He has also been part of United States men’s under-17 team camps.

10. Tommy Thompson

San Jose Earthquakes

Rounding out the list is Hinsdale native Tommy Thompson, also valued at $456,000.

Thomspon, 23, is in his sixth season with San Jose Earthquakes after signing a homegrown player contract ahead of the 2014 MLS season.
